Piton
Engineered Slabs for Weight and Precision
Piton
Piton is a slab serif display typeface constructed for clarity under pressure. With a tall x-height and condensed counters, it produces compact forms where negative space is as present as stroke. The result is a rhythm of slabs and voids that reads as much like structure as it does typography. The design draws directly from mid-century U.S. national park brochures and climbing ephemera. These utilitarian sources, originally intended to communicate in rugged conditions with limited means, are distilled here into a rigid slab serif. By removing ornament and standardizing proportion, Piton turns vernacular print language into a system of weight and precision. Released in a single weight, Piton includes 368 glyphs and supports 95 languages. It features case-sensitive forms and oldstyle numerals. Designed for display applications and typography-driven layouts, Piton is most effective where text is asked to carry both message and material presence.
